Imports rose 14.1% after growing 5% for the January-February period, customs data showed on Wednesday, suggesting Chinese manufacturers and consumers may be buying more. Export growth slowed to 10% from the prior two-month period's 23.6%.

Analysts said data may be distorted by firms misreporting trade or government manipulation, clouding the picture of an economic recovery gaining traction.
