The government on Thursday constituted a group of ministers (GoM) on 3G spectrum auction. External Affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee will head it.
The GOM will decide on the reserve price of the spectrum and the quantum of spectrum to be auctioned.
However, in view of implementation of the model code of conduct for the elections, this GoM would be ineffective. Moreover, with all the ministers getting engaged in political election campaigning, it is not yet clear when will the GoM meet.
“Therefore, this whole exercise is an eyewash,” said an industry representative.
About a month back, the cabinet approved the constitution of GoM. On February 17, Communications Minister A Raja said that the process of 3G auction would be completed by March 31.
