Rupee down 1 paise against dollar in early trade

The Indian rupee depreciated marginally by 1 paise to 44.55 a dollar in early trade following the US currency's gain overseas.

The Indian rupee depreciated marginally by 1 paise to 44.55 a dollar in early trade following the US currency's gain overseas.

The rupee closed higher by 1 paise at 44.54/55 a dollar in the previous session.

Forex dealers said dollar's gains against other currencies weighed on the rupee sentiment, but the losses were capped by capital inflows in stock markets by foreign funds.

Meanwhile, the Bombay Stock Exchange index, Sensex, rose by 119.13 points, or 0.68 per cent to 17,693.12 points in the opening trade on Friday.
