In the previous session, the domestic unit at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market, had closed flat at a 25-month high of 44.10/11 a dollar.
Forex dealers said, weaker Asian currencies against the US currency and weak opening on the bourses, mainly put pressure on the rupee sentiment.
The Bombay Stock Exchange index, Sensex, dipped below 20,000 points level by losing 150.53 points to trade at 19,974.52 points in the opening trade today.
