Rupee weakens against US dollar

Weakness in global markets weighed on the rupee sentiment. Asian indices were trading sharply lower this morning. The benchmark Sensex was down 225.21 points at 17,239.68.

Opening weak at 39.63/65 a dollar in quiet trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market, the rupee moved lower to 39.65/66 a dollar against Friday's close of 39.6150.

Consistent capital outflows and dollar selling from exporters also affected the rupee sentiment, forex dealers said.
