Sensex extends losses, ends 0.56 per cent down

The sensex pared some of its intra-day losses to end 0.56 per cent lower in highly volatile trade on Thursday. The index which opened at 17,080.47 points, closed at 16,991.96 points (provisional), 96 points or 0.56 per cent lower than its previous close at 17,137.14 points.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 17,080.47 points, closed at 16,991.96 points (provisional), 96 points or 0.56 per cent lower than its previous close at 17,137.14 points.

At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty was ruling at 5,090.3 points, a loss of 0.68 per cent from its previous close at 5,124.9 points.

Broader market indices also closed in the red with the BSE midcap index ruling 0.53 per cent down and the BSE smallcap index trading 0.13 per cent lower.
