Sensex falls 136 points in early trade

The benchmark BSE Sensex fell over 136 points in early trade on Friday on sustained selling by investors amid mixed cues from other Asian markets.

The benchmark BSE Sensex fell over 136 points in early trade on Friday on sustained selling by investors amid mixed cues from other Asian markets.

The 30-share index was trading down by 136.92 points, or 0.48%, at 28,332.75 as stocks of infrastructure, power, auto and FMCG sectors, witnessed heavy profit-booking.

On similar lines, the National Stock Exchange index Nifty slipped below the 8,600-mark by falling 44.90 points, or 0.51 per cent, at 8,589.75.

Meanwhile, Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 1,428.72 crore yesterday, as per provisional data released by the stock exchanges.

Among other Asian markets, Hong Kong's Hang Seng was down by 0.21%, while Japan's Nikkei rose 0.08% in early trade.

The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.65% lower in yesterday's trade.
