The benchmark Sensex gained over 224 points in early trade on the Bombay Stock Exchange on Monday on buying by funds in heavy weight stocks.

The 30-share index, Sensex, which snapped a long rally on Friday, regained strength and recorded a gain of 224.30 points at 18,643.34 in the first five minutes of trading on heavy buying in banks, oils and reality sector.
Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange's Nifty recovered by 74.65 points at 5,502.90.
A firm trend in Asian markets also boosted the market sentiment to some extent.
