The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) benchmark Sensex tumbled by over 453 points on Wednesday on major sell-off by funds sparked by a weakening trend on the global markets on concerns over the slowdown in the US economy.

The market, which has been in the positive zone for the last two trading sessions, came under pressure and lost 453.36 points, or 3.49 per cent, at 12,529.62 on heavy selling by funds in index-heavy stocks, led by IT, capital goods and banking segments. It touched the day's high of 12,694.36 and a low of 12,504.10 points.

Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty dropped by 129.45 points, or 3.43 per cent at 3,641.10 after moving between 3,768.40 and 3,623.00 points.
