Muthuraman succeeds Hari Bhartia of Jubilant Organosys. He has been associated with Tata Steel since 1966 and was instrumental in the firm’s takeover of Anglo Dutch steel company Corus that catapulted Tata Steel to the league of big steelmakers worldwide.

In a first, CII would have three office bearers at the helm with CEO and managing director of Infosys Technologies S Gopalakrishnan elected as the vice president for 2011-12.

“This is the first time that Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has had three Officer Bearers at the helm of affairs, as per changes in the Rules of the Organisation,” CII said in a statement.
