19-year-old allegedly raped in moving car in Shimla

The girl was on her way to the Mall road when she was forcibly dragged into the vehicle.

A 19-year-old girl was allegedly raped in a moving car in Shimla on Sunday night. The incident came to light on Monday after the victim lodged a complaint through Gudiya helpline that was set up after the 2017 Kotkhai rape case.

A case under section 376 (rape) and 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC has been registered at the Dhalli police station. (HT Photo)

The complainant alleged that she was on her way to the Mall Road from Dhalli when a car stopped near her and she was forcibly dragged into it and sexually assaulted. “We have recorded the statement of the girl and conducted her medical examination,” said Shimla’s deputy superintendent of police (headquarters) Pramod Shukla.

A case under section 376 (rape) and 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC has been registered at the Dhalli police station.
