5 hurt after bus overturns in Sec 42

Five people were injured when the bus they were travelling in turned turtle after the driver lost control and rammed it into a car before it crashed into a roundabout in Sector 42 on Wednesday.

The car driver, identified as Manjeet, a resident of SAS Nagar, sustained minor injuries. Both the driver, identified as Ranbir Singh, and the conductor of the Haryana Roadways bus fled from the accident scene. The incident caused a massive traffic pileup for over half an hour. Passersby helped in rescuing passengers trapped in the bus. The police arrived at the scene and took the injured to the government hospitals in Sectors 32 and 16, where their condition is stated to be stable.

The police later filed a case of causing injuries due to rash and negligent based on the statements of eyewitnesses.

The bus [registration no: HR 68 A 9805), which was coming from Zirakpur, hit the Suzuki Alto car from the rear and hit a motorcyclist before overturning. The latter, identified as Beant Singh, also suffered injuries.
