The trial in the case was completed in just one hour during the last hearing on January 23, 2013. The judge had examined three witnesses and also recorded the statement of the accused, and the victim who had supported all charges against him.

Public prosecutor Manu Kakkar said that the CCTV footage helped the court to convict accused Gurvinder Singh alias Bindri, aged 19 at the time of the crime, who was accused of attempting abduction and rape of 19-year-old complainant on the city outskirts in September 2012.

Gurvinder was arrested on the basis of CCTV footage installed on the rooftop of a house in Khudda Ali Sher village. There was no eyewitness in the case and police were treating it as a blind case till it got the CCTV footage.

The CCTV footage showed a well-built man over-powering a young woman from behind and dragging her to a nearby isolated plot of land. Later, he tried to force himself upon her but ran away after she resisted and raised an alarm.

Gurvinder's mother was said to be the village sarpanch while his father is a PGI employee.
