The raid was conducted after the cop's second wife had first lodged a complaint against head constable Jaspal Singh Jassa before the director general of police (DGP), Haryana, and then to deputy commissioner of police, Panchkula. The complainant also alleged rape against the cop after which he was suspended.

The challan books were of 2012 when Jassa was posted at Surajpur traffic police station. Other traffic personnel had deposited their challan books to him.

The challan books were stored in three gunny bags. One challan book has about 100 receipts.

Terming the incident serious, DCP Ashwin Shenvi has marked an inquiry by ACP Mamta Souda on Tuesday.

Usually, challan books are destroyed in two years but the head constable had shifted them to his residence. “We have checked the records. There are no alterations in the books. The head constable should have deposited them. It is negligence on his part only,” said ACP Mamta Souda.
