The institute had been established to train selected young boys from Punjab for permanent commission in the armed forces through the National Defence Academy.

On arrival, Singh was introduced to the faculty and cadet appointments. He was briefed by director AFPI Major Gen BS Grewal (Retd) about various training activities being carried out at the institute.

Singh expressed his happiness at the good performance of cadets of the second course who have recently completed their training at the institute.

As many as 29 cadets have already joined the NDA and Indian Naval Academy. He said that he was confident that in the years ahead the institute would develop into a centre of excellence for pre-commission training of young men from Punjab.
