The court rejected a petition in this regard filed by Zakia Zafri and upheld the closure report of the special investigation team (SIT) appointed by the Supreme Court which said that there was no prosecution evidence against Modi, according to a press statement issued here by the Punjab government.

Commenting on the verdict, Badal said the decision, like the earlier report of the Supreme Court-appointed SIT, had further confirmed the belief that the Congress was using all kinds of tricks, including legal subterfuge, to implicate the Gujarat chief minister in one false case or the other.

"The verdict should be seen as a strong moral rebuff to the negative and destructive politics indulged in by the Congress," Badal said.
