Badal ordered the probe while taking cognisance of the allegation of negligence against the health staff, made by the parents of the infant who died on Wednesday.

The Punjab government has constituted a high-level committee comprising ADC (general) Parneet Bhardwaj, Nakodar SDM Sumeet, civil surgeon Dr RL Bassan, medical officer (gynaecology) Dr Sangeeta Kapoor, MO (pediatrics) Dr Jaswinder Kaur, to hold an independent inquiry into the matter.

The committee would thoroughly examine the complete record and take statements of the members of the aggrieved family and submit its report within three days to the government.

Health and family welfare minister Madan Mohan Mittal has directed health services and family welfare Director Karanjit Singh to be associated with the inquiry on behalf of the state headquarters.
