The former deputy speaker of Punjab, Bir Devinder, has given an ultimatum to join villagers of Balongi in their protest over their pending demands.
He said, “It is unfortunate that residents of Balongi village had to launch a peaceful agitation to press for their demands for the development of the inner roads of the village. Balongi is the first village situated on the National Highway-21 on the outskirts of township. In the quest for justice, the residents of this village have been on a chain hunger strike for the past eleven days after all their other efforts fell flat. Unfortunately, no o ne from the political dispensation of the state or from the district administration has cared to visit the agitated residents, in order to redress their g rievances.” A village resident, Balbir Chand Premi, as he’s fondly called, has been on hunger strike for the past 60 hours.
Devinder has decided to join the peaceful struggle of the residents of Balongi , keeping the sincerity of the purpose in mind. “If nothing tangible happens on the development front of Balongi village as desired and amply highlighted by the residents, I shall be joining the agitation from June 15,” he stated.
