With animal husbandry minister Gulzar Singh Ranike stepping down from the cabinet after the embezzlement scam, various political leaders have demanded registration of a case against him.
Balwinder Singh of the CPI, who led the dharna outside Ranike's house on Saturday, said, "The resignation shows the minister had a role in the scam. We want that an FIR be registered against Ranike and the investigation handed over to the CBI."
He said Ranike must be arrested so that he could not influence the probe.
Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Tarsem Singh, the Congress candidate against Ranike in the last assembly polls, said, "We want that Ranike be arrested and the CBI investigate the scam."
The Congress leader also demanded that a probe be initiated in all the grants released for the Attari block in the past few years. Grants under all schemes such as Shagun and the sports funds must be investigated, he demanded.
Congress leader Harminder Gill said the resignation was not enough and they wanted that Ranike be arrested. Since there were allegations of the central funds being embezzled, the case must be handed over to the CBI, he added.
