Cop rams car into roundabout, killed

Speeding claimed the life of a 43-year-old Punjab Police constable after he rammed his Mahindra Bolero into the Sector 35 roundabout in the wee hours of Saturday.

The victim, Manjit Singh, resident of Jalandhar, work-ed as a driver for the Punjab Police.

According to investigating officer sub-inspector (SI) Sohan Singh, the victim, who was alone in the vehicle, was driving at high speed, when he lost control of the car and rammed it into the roundabout around 4am.

A passerby informed the police who rushed the victim to Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research where he succumbed to his injuries received on the head and other parts of the body.

The body was handed over to the family after autopsy.
