Chaudhary had sought bail on April 8 on the ground of incomplete charge sheet. He had cited over 50 documents that were missing from charge sheet, which included statements of 24 witnesses. He submitted that there was incomplete call record of the deceased's mobile phones and also no tower location record was given.

On the other hand, the police opposed the contentions of Chaudhary that the charge sheet was incomplete. It added that all the relevant documents on which the prosecution was relying had been attached with the charge sheet. “ The police are fully competent to further investigate the matter under Section 173 (8) of CrPC,” it said.

It also added that “the police have sufficient evidence to prove the involvement of the accused” in the commission of crime.

Meanwhile, Jyoti's father Butti Ram had also opposed the bail.

After hearing the arguments, the CJM dismissed the bail application. A detailed order on the matter would come later.

Jyoti, a Dalit girl of Bhunga village of Hoshiarpur, was found dead on a road in Sector 21, Panchkula, on the morning of November 22, 2012, with her head crushed.

In the charge sheet filed in the case, the police have alleged that Chaudhary along with Dharampal, Gurmeet Singh, Tilak Raj and Paramjit had killed Jyoti.
