Drug peddling: Inform on WhatsApp, get rewarded by police

The UT police will reward informers who help in nabbing drug peddlers. Officials said the reward amount would depend on the information provided and recoveries made. UT adviser Vijay Dev launched a WhatsApp number (7087239010) on which information regarding drug peddling in the city can be sent. Dev said superintendent of police (city) Parvinder Singh had been deputed to monitor the information received on the number.

The adviser said the informer’s name would be kept secret and the police would act on each piece of information. Dev said he had learnt that in most cases, informers were not getting the reward amount easily. He said the process would be smoothened to motivate the informers.

The adviser also urged the police to give strong intelligence inputs and assured them of financial assistance to curb drug menace. IGP RP Upadhyay said the department had nabbed several peddlers and recovered contraband during the recent drives.
