Ex-civil surgeon Sahota dies of heart attack
Former civil surgeon Dr Baldev Singh Sahota, 59, died of heart attack early Wednesday morning at his residence at Sunam in Patiala district.
Former civil surgeon Dr Baldev Singh Sahota, 59, died of heart attack early Wednesday morning at his residence at Sunam in Patiala district.
Informing about his death, a family friend said, "He got up well at about 5.30 am today as he was to go to Chandigarh to meet some higher-ups of the health department in connection with his reinstatement. But within half-an-hour, he collapsed all of a sudden and died. He was actually under stress after his arrest in a corruption case."
He is survived by his wife and two sons. He was given an extension by the health department after retirement and was transferred to Faridkot from Mansa.
Meanwhile, in Chandigarh, shocked at the death of Dr Sahota, doctors of the state have said that he was, in fact, a victim of the corrupt system.
Last month, he was arrested by the vigilance officials at Faridkot when he was allegedly accepting bribe from a pharmacist.
Dr Pyare Lal Garg, founder general secretary of the PCMS Association, Punjab, said that Dr Sahota was another victim of the corrupt health system under which top district officials are allotted quotas of money and are forced to collect that money, otherwise they are harassed in the shape of frequent transfers.
