Gupta announced to join the INLD after meeting Chautala at the latter's house in New Delhi, an INLD release said.

Chautala welcomed four-time legislator Gupta and his supporters in the party fold. Chautala said Gupta's joining would strengthen the party base in the state and assured that the new entrant would be given due respect.

INLD state president Ashok Arora, former minister KL Sharma and former MP Tarlochan Singh were present.

Gupta alleged chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and his ministers and MLAs were looting the state exchequer.

Gupta who had also been Congress state general secretary, state vice-president and treasurer had left the Congress and recently joined the Haryana Janhit Congress. He, however, left Kuldeep Bishnoi's party due to the “un-democratic working of the HJC” and decided to join the INLD after consulting his supporters.
