Grover was speaking at a two-day international conference on challenges of electronic environment in academic libraries to commemorate the golden jubilee celebrations of PU's AC Joshi Library.

The V-C said central library should be connected with 75 departmental libraries of the campus to use each other's resources. “The PU library should be an informatics centre connected to other informatics centres all over the world,” said Grover, adding that the PU research journals should be accessible on the web all over the world.

Earlier, at the session, United Nations Information Centre, New Delhi, director Kiran Mehra said technology was not the end in itself. The key was to empower people to explore their hidden potential. To change the mindset of library professionals was a real challenge, she added.

Three technical sessions were held on the first day of the conference on the themes - resources and emerging technologies, web resource management, technology and innovation management, open access initiatives, collection development policies and technical processing systems.
