Four get life term in child kidnapping case

Additional district and sessions judge Ved Prakash Sirohi today awarded life imprisonment to four persons involved in the kidnapping of seven-year-old Japjit Singh of Sector 38.

Additional district and sessions judge Ved Prakash Sirohi on Monday awarded life imprisonment to the four accused involved in the kidnapping of seven-year-old Japjit Singh of Sector 38.

The accused include Prem Singh (21) of Kishangarh, Sandeep Kumar (25) of Dhanas, and Kesar Singh (21) and Manish (21), both residents of Thaska village of Yamunanagar district.

Japjit, son of a government employee, was kidnapped from the Sector 38 market while he was going for his tuition classes. Thereafter, the boy's father received a call from the kidnappers, asking for a ransom of Rs 20 lakh.

On November 29, 2008, a ransom of Rs 3.35 lakh was paid. As demanded by the kidnappers, the bag containing the money was thrown from an overbridge on to the road.

The child was set free and found in the parking of Rose Garden, Sector 16. On December 1, 2008, the police apprehended Sandeep and three others.
