The Union Home Ministry had issued directions to DGP R.S. Dalal three weeks ago to withdraw the medal from Rathore.

“The medal has been cancelled and forfeited,” a police spokesman said here on Friday.

He said the state sovernment had received a written communication from the Home Ministry, forwarding a President’s secretariat notification regarding cancellation and forfeiture of the medal, which was awarded to him in 1985.

Rathore was convicted for molesting 14-year-old tennis player Ruchika, who later committed suicide.
