Speaking on the occasion Haryana governor Jagannath Pahadia said Mahatma Gandhi proved that violence and war were no solution to any problem and showed the path of non-violence to the entire humanity. Thus the day was also being observed as Non-Violence Day, he added.

Pahadia said that Lal Bahadur Shastri symbolised simplicity, honesty, patriotism and dedication to duty.

A 'sarv dharam prathna sabha' was also organised on the occasion, in which priests representing various religions - Hinduism, Christianity, Sikhism and Islam - recited sermons from religious scriptures.

Meanwhile, tributes were also paid at several other places in Haryana on the occasion, including those visited by Mahatma Gandhi in Palwal and Ghasera village in Mewat district.
