The court order came on an ongoing case challenging the construction of illegal colonies in Haryana. The court also issued a notice of motion to the Haryana government for September 15 for filing its reply.

Recently, the Haryana government had taken a decision to regularise about 540 illegal colonies in various districts of the state, including Faridabad, Gurgaon, Ambala, Rohtak, Yamunanagar and Bahadurgarh etc. Most such colonies are in Ambala district.

As per government plans, only those colonies were to be considered for regularisation where construction had been carried out on more than 50% of the plots.

The court also directed to attach the petition relating to Haryana with other petitions related to regularising of illegal colonies in Punjab. The high court had earlier also restrained the Punjab government from regularising illegal colonies.
