What were your achievements during your five-year term?
Anurag Thakur: I have focused on creating infrastructure in my constituency. I pursued the extension of railway lines and introduction of new trains, such as extension of Himachal Express from Amb in Indora and extension of the Nangal-Una-Talwara rail line up to Amb-Indora. I got built numerous community centres. Also, I focused on creating sports and educational facilities by building five stadiums. I helped individuals find employment by holding job fairs. I have sanctioned the construction of an arts and culture centre. I have also pledged `1 crore for the construction of a war memorial and museum in honour of Himachal’s ex-servicemen and brave soldiers. The army training academy for the youth is also in the pipeline.
Your rival says that you are more visible in the power circles of Delhi and Dubai than in your constituency.
It’s a cheap allegation being levelled by the Congress, which no one takes seriously. I travel 25 days a month, of which a major part is spent in my constituency. I have visited nearly every panchayat till now. It is understandable that my constituents desire to spend more time with me. However, they realise with a sense of pride that I also have other responsibilities that of leading the BJYM and sports bodies such as the HPCA and BCCI, among others. I regularly travel by bus and train to Himachal, fly out the next day and drive back the following day. When away, I am always available on the phone, mail and social media.
Will you contest from Hamirpur again?
Yes. People of Hamirpur Lok Sabha constituency have shown tremendous faith in me and I have always tried to live up to their expectations.
Why should people re-elect you?
I have worked tirelessly for my people; we have stood together through each other’s joys and sorrows. We will continue together on the path of development, fight for victory and fight for Himachal’s pride.
