Japanese scientist delivers lecture on malaria at PGI

Eminent scientist Prof Fumie Kobayashi from the department of infectious diseases, Kyorin University School of Medicine, Japan, visited the department of medical parasitology at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research on Monday.

Eminent scientist Prof Fumie Kobayashi from the department of infectious diseases, Kyorin University School of Medicine, Japan, visited the department of medical parasitology at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research on Monday. He visited various laboratories in the department.

Dr Mamoru Niikura, assistant professor from the same department, was also accompanying her. Prof Kobayashi also delivered a guest lecture on the "The role of gamma/delta T-cells in protective immunity to malaria."

After her lecture, she interacted with students and discussed about future research areas in the field of malaria.

Dr Rakesh Sehgal, head, medical parasitology, PGIMER, shared his experiences in the field of malaria and Japanese collaborators were positive about developing diagnostic or prognostic markers for predicting the severity of malaria.
