A Zirakpur-based jeweller was fired at by three unidentified assailants in a bid to rob him of jewellery and cash on Tuesday night in Panchkula but he escaped unhurt.
Harish Babbar, owner of Babbar Jewellers in Zirakpur, was returning home at Manimajra complex on his motorcycle at about 9.15pm carrying a bag of jewellery and cash when three men riding a motorcycle tried to stop him were on the road dividing sector 10-11.
As Babbar did not stop, one of them fired at him. He fell but escaped unhurt. After he ran for his life, the trio again fired at him and tried to snatch the bag but could not succeed.
As area people came out of their houses, the robbers sped away, but not before hitting Babbar with the butt of the pistol.
He was admitted to general hospital in sector 6 of Panchkula, from where he was discharged later on.
He told police that the trio had covered their faces with cloth and were speaking in Haryanavi.
Police have started investigations and a case was yet to be registered till the filing of the report.
