Karnal: Food and supplies official held for cheating

A sub-inspector of food and supplies department, Rinku, was arrested on Sunday for allegedly damaging wheat sacks by sprinkling water at a warehouse in Indri in Karnal district.

A sub-inspector of food and supplies department, Rinku, was arrested on Sunday for allegedly damaging wheat sacks by sprinkling water at a warehouse in Indri in Karnal district.

Rinku and Yogesh, his colleague in the department, were booked under section 409 (Criminal breach of trust by public servant) and 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the complaint of district food and supplies controller Nishant Rathi.

Amarendra Singh, the officer on special duty (OSD) to the chief minister’s camp office in Karnal accompanied by a team of officers had raided the godown on the night of May 29 and found some employees sprinkling water on wheat sacks in godown.

As soon as the OSD entered the godown, both officials fled the spot, leaving behind their motorcycles.

As both the accused were absconding, state food and supplies minister Karan Dev Kamboj had suspended them.

Police had seized the rubber pipe used for sprinkling water, motorcycles and other records.
