Kith and kin of leaders make fortune in ZP polls

The just-concluded zila parishad polls in Punjab have provided a foothold to family members of leaders of the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). In Ludhiana, Akali MLA Darshan Singh Shivalik's son Harpreet Singh Shivalik and MLA, Manpreet Singh Ayali's younger brother Harbir Singh Ayali won their respective zila parishad seats.

The just-concluded zila parishad polls in Punjab have provided a foothold to family members of leaders of the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).

Among the winning candidates in their respective districts are education minister Sikander Singh Maluka's son Gurpreet Singh Maluka (Bathinda), senior Akali leader Bibi Jagir Kaur's son-in-law Yuvraj Bhupinder Singh (Kapurthala), chief parliamentary secretary Mantar Singh Brar's brother Kultar Singh Brar (Muktsar), MLA Chitan Singh Samaon's son Malkit Singh Samaon (Mansa) and MLA Harpreet Singh's wife Avneet Kaur (Muktsar).

In Ludhiana, Akali MLA Darshan Singh Shivalik's son Harpreet Singh Shivalik and MLA, Manpreet Singh Ayali's younger brother Harbir Singh Ayali won their respective zila parishad seats.

In Amritsar district, former Akali minister Sucha Singh Langah's son Sonu Langah won the zila parishad seat from Kalanaur.

Another son-rise in the Amritsar zila parishad was of SAD's Ranbir Singh Rana, the son of former Akali MLA Veer Singh Lopoke.

However, former Akali MLA Capt Balbir Singh Baath's son Tirlok Singh Baath lost his zila parishad seat from Hargibindpur zone in Gurdaspur district.
