Man gets life term for killing wife for dowry

On March 19 last year, Chhinderpal, the father of Babli, the victim, had accused Avtar Singh of torturing and murdering Babli for dowry after her body was fished out from Sutlej river.

Rupnagar sessions judge Amarjot Bhatti imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on him. Singh was also sentenced to three years of imprisonment after finding him guilty under section 498-A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) of the Indian Penal Code and was imposed an additional fine of Rs 3,000.
