The notice was issued on the petition of Mohali resident Navdeep Singh, who had passed his BDS (bachelor of dental surgery) course from Panjab University.

He has sought quashing of the merit list prepared by BFUHS. The petitioner told the court that 100% reservation had been given by BFUHS under the institutional quota in the SC (Scheduled Caste) category to candidates who had passed their qualifying examination of BDS from BFUHS. It was contrary to the law settled by the Supreme Court, whereby the reservation on account of institutional preference had been confined to 50%, the petitioner had submitted.
