Minimum temperature remained below normal in Punjab and Haryana even as there was a slight increase in mercury level in some places in the region.

In Punjab, Ludhiana was the coldest place, recording a minimum of 7.6 degrees Celsius, down two notches, while Amritsar recorded 7.8 degrees and Patiala 11.1 degrees, the Met department said here.

In Haryana, Ambala recorded a low of 9.5 degrees, down two notches, while Hisar's low at 8.5 degrees was also down two degrees below normal.

Karnal and Narnaul also experienced a cold night, registering identical lows of 7 degrees, down three notches each while Rohtak's minimum at 9.8 degrees was a notch below normal.

The two state's joint capital Chandigarh recorded a minimum of 9.4 degrees, down one degree.

The Met office has forecast slight rise in temperatures in the region during the next few days.
