The deceased has been identified as Rehana, a resident of Mohali village of SAS Nagar. She was a native of Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, said hospital officials.

As per the hospital records, she had given birth to a baby girl around two weeks ago at the hospital.

The baby developed a respiratory infection and the doctors diagnosed the baby with pneumonia. The baby was brought to the hospital for treatment a few days ago.

Around 4am on Tuesday, she jumped from the fourth floor of the paediatric emergency unit of the
hospital. She suffered serious head injuries and multiple injuries on her body. She was immediately taken to the emergency of the hospital, where she was declared dead soon after.

"There was no reason to commit suicide, but she was worried over the poor health of the baby," said her husband Azad, who works as a painter.

The police officials said it was a case of depression. "The family has even ruled out family dispute," said Diwan Singh, SHO of the Sector-34 police station.
