The Punjab government, on Thursday, issued directions to all deputy commissioners (DCs) in the state to verify details of old-age pensioners and detect fake beneficiaries.

The DCs have been asked to tally the beneficiaries’ list with the voters’ list and submit complete reports by December 15 to social security director Alaknanda Dayal, a spokesperson here said.

It was also stated that the updated voters’ lists would be provided to the checking teams through the e-governance mission.

The old-age pensions came under the scanner after newspapers reported that certain beneficiaries were found fake in many districts, including the Badal village of chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, in Muktsar.
