More than 20 days after the Chandigarh Police transferred the case of missing woman constable Reeta (25) to Panipat police, a constable with the department has been booked in the case.
Reeta, posted with the Chandigarh police control room, went missing on June 7.
The constable, Ravinder, has been booked under Section 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person) of the IPC.
DSP Central Ashish Kapoor said: “Panipat police is investigating the case. The constable has been booked. Whatever information they need will be provided by the Chandigarh police.”
Ravinder was suspected by the Chandigarh police too, but no evidence could be gathered against him. Both were in regular contact before she went missing and had exchanged around 3,000 calls in one year. Ravinder was also questioned by the Chandigarh police but he kept claiming that Reeta was like his sister. The Chandigarh police team also verified the role of Reeta’s parents in her mysterious disappearance, and did not rule out the possibility of honour killing.
Now, the Panipat police will conduct a narco test on Ravinder after taking a date from the Gujarat Forensic Science Laboratory. Ravinder hails from Kheri Naru, Karnal, while Reeta is from Chulkana, Panipat.
Reeta had reached Panipat on the night of June 7 and stayed at her home. She went missing the next day from the Panipat railway station. He last mobile location was last tracked to Karnal.
