PPP chairman Hilal Ahmad War and his supporters gathered at Maisuma and moved towards Lal Chowk. However, security forces had closed all main roads in the area since early morning.

Police took War and a few others into preventive custody after they insisted on moving towards Lal Chowk.

The demonstrators then started pelting stones and when lathicharge by the security forces failed to bring the crowd under control, teargas shells were fired. The demonstrators then dispersed and continued stone pelting from the nearby lanes.

War had called for "Khanyar Challo" march on Friday to protest against the gutting of Peer Dastgeer Sahib shrine at Khanyar on June 25 morning.
