Prime source of litter and stink

Chandigarh and Panchkula, apni mandis in SAS Nagar too present the real picture of the much-touted cleanliness drive started last month at the national level.A visit to one such market that was set up on Thursday in Phase 7 shows the state of neglect. Though the managers there said lots was being done to keep the ground clean, and vendors were even penalised for leaving anygarbage behind, a lot still needs to be done.

After the garbage is left behind, the banned activity of burning it begins.
There are black patches on the ground that stand as evidence. Vegetable peels and non-bio-degradable polythene bags are dumped in all corners. The managers fail to take responsibility and say that their concern is only the area where vendors actually up their carts. Conveniently, the vendors pick up their garbage and throw it far away from where the market is set up.
There are no closed drums or dustbins to collect the garbage, so it is collected by vendors in sacks.
