Punjab Guv accepts Jagir Kaur's resignation from cabinet

Punjab Governor Shivraj Patil today accepted the resignation of cabinet minister Bibi Jagir Kaur, who was recently sentenced to five-year imprisonment by a CBI court for the abduction and forced abortion of her daughter in 2000.

An official spokesman said that the rural water supply, sanitation and defence services welfare minister Bibi Jagir Kaur had tendered her resignation to chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on "moral grounds" in the wake of her conviction.

The resignation of Bibi Jagir Kaur was subsequently forwarded to the Governor who accepted it.
