Ashok Kumar, who works for a vernacular newspaper, had gone with reporter Amit Sharma to Garg's house in Sector 7 to click photographs of government land encroached upon by the security guards of the IG.

After clicking the photographs, the duo was about to leave when Garg approached them and reportedly snatched the camera. Sharma alleged that Garg misbehaved with them and abused them, too.

As the news spread, other journalists gathered outside Garg's house and sloganeered against the alleged high handedness. Local councillors and Panchkula legislator DK Bansal also came out in the journalists' support. Finally, better sense prevailed after over two hours of protest. Garg came outside and publically apologised for his conduct. He also returned the camera.
