Punjab raises DA by 12%

The Punjab government has increased the dearness allowance (DA) for its employees and pensioners by 12%, state finance minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa said on Tuesday. The increased DA will be applicable for salaries paid from January 1, 2012.

The Punjab government has increased the dearness allowance (DA) for its employees and pensioners by 12%, state finance minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa said on Tuesday.

The increased DA will be applicable for salaries paid from January 1, 2012. Punjab governor Shivraj V Patil has approved the rate of dearness allowance that has been increased from 127% to 139% of the unrevised basic pay, Dhindsa said.

Dhindsa added that the arrears of the increased DA for the period from January 1 to June 30, 2012 would be credited to the general provident fund account of the employees.

Dhindsa added that the enhanced dearness allowance for government employees would be paid in cash from July 1, 2012. While in case of pensioners, the amount in cash would be paid from January 2012.
