While the SAS Nagar deputy commissioner’s office and the municipal corporation (MC) razed the illegal market in Phase 6, vendors continue selling meat out of their shanties here. They even slaughter chicken there.

The area resembles a dumping ground, where both domestic waste and slaughter remains are thrown.
The unauthorised market in Jagatpura village, ahead of Phase 11 here, is in an abysmal state too. Right at the entrance of the village, on pavements, are shops which are surrounded by filth. Flies were swarming meat left open. There is even a heap of cow dung next to one of the shops.

The stench from these outlets, along with that from the dung heap, makes it unbearable to stand there.
With no proper waste disposal system in place, vendors dump waste in the garbage heaps dotting the area. Sometimes, they are even left on the road, and stray dogs and flies throng the remains and blood smears.
