The road was closed with barricades and barbwires which were removed by the UT engineering wing.

The road was closed in 1984 during period of terrorism after the city was declared disturbed area due to security reasons.

The status of disturbed area was quashed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court in December.

The court had abolished the disturbed area status on petition filed by Surinder Bhardwaj and the administration had accepted the verdict and did not appeal against the decision.

Over the years, the residents of area had submitted many representation surging the administration to re-open the road for public.

UT home secretary Anil Kumar said that the residents of area were facing lot of inconvenience and moreover at present there are no security threats.

“Keeping in mind the problems faced by the residents, the decision to open the road was taken,” said Anil Kumar.
