In the film and entertainment sector, formal classroom education may not be considered as important as practical knowledge.

But with specialisations and technicalities increasing — from acting, directing, producing to camera, sound recording, scriptwriting, dialogues, still photography — courses of relatively short duration come in handy.

Yet another related industry is television news. One needs to have solid understanding of journalism, and a course in mass communication is a must though not mandatory. One can opt for anchoring, reporting, production, camera handling, script writing and other related functions.

Many news channels have their own training programmes. What does pay dividends in the field is the training received on the job and the understanding one has of the content and the audience. What is important from the point of view of Chandigarh is that shooting of a lot of films takes place at Chandigarh and the establishment of a film city has long been the buzz in the city’s corridors of powers, with no real action so far.
