It was after years of calm in the old city’s Shiraz Chowk, which houses CRPF’s 82 Batallion in a defunct cinema hall Shiraz, that militants riding a motorcycle fired on the security men at around 7am.
"Seven CRPF personnel have been injured in the firing. Initial reports say that one of the personnel is in serious condition," a police official told Hindustan Times.
A CRPF bunker set up during the heydays of militants was recently removed from the square. The attack assumes significance as IGP SM Sahai has been repeatedly claiming the "death of militancy" in Srinagar.
