Zirakpur police have arrested a shopkeeper on charge of impersonating a retired army major and buying liquor from a CSD canteen in Zirakpur.

Accused Vikas Sahni, 32, introduced himself as a retired army officer who had fought the Kargil war. But he failed to produce his identity card when naib subedar Inderpal Singh asked for the same.

After his arrest, it came to light that Sahni ran a shop under the name of Honey Chicken in Dhakoli. Police also impounded a car of Sahni that had army's insignia on it.

"The accused runs a shop in Dhakoli. He was arrested for impersonation on the complaint of the naib subedar," said Zirakpur SHO Tarlochan Singh.

"Sahni was accompanied by an army sepoy who would be proceeded against as per the army rules," he added.

Sahni was booked for impersonation (419), cheating (420) and possessing counterfeit seal etc with intent to commit forgery (473).
